Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag insists anger over conceding an unfair first goal was the fuel behind his side’s 2-1 comeback win over Brentford in the second half.

“We are happy with the win. At United you have to win but you have to entertain too. I think everyone enjoyed this afternoon (local time), especially what happens when you concede unfair goals. In the second half we showed we were together, we showed determination and we scored two great goals.”

On the Brentford goal: “We don’t know why the referee sent our players off at such a crucial moment. It was dry blood. It’s happened before. Then in such a crucial moment they got a corner, which is their strength. They got one when our best header was off and Brentford benefited from that. Of course you have to be frustrated at the time.”

On his team’s response: “Everyone was angry. We took that as fuel. We showed with a quick start in the second half that we wanted to fix things and we did that with two great goals.”

On the changes in the second half: “There are always small changes. We had to fill the gaps better. Then you have to have a better structure to create chances but also to press so that we control the game. We showed a bit better structure in the second half but the first half was not bad at all. We had good moments and good chances but we didn’t score. In the second half it changes when you score and everyone is happy. You can see that the motivation and confidence is growing. This is what the team needs. Last week it was difficult for us to score goals.”

On the rumors about his future: “I’m only interested in this. What everyone is writing is not based on my facts. I can handle it. The players only think about the team’s performance, doing the right job, giving everything they have. I know they are great players. If you focus, we score goals and win. That’s what everyone expects.”

Talking about the fans’ support, “I’m very happy with UFABET our fans. They always support us even when everyone is against us. They’ve always been with us and supported us. Today we have to thank them for supporting us. I think they were one of the reasons why we started the game quickly after the first half.”
